Skylla / Thursday 24th March / Yellow Arch Studios / £15 (£8 students)

The band behind one of the exciting, beautiful and original releases of 2021, Skylla are led by bassist, vocalist, composer and environmentalist Ruth Goller, and also feature two acclaimed vocalists, Lauren Kinsella (Snowpoet), and Alice Grant (Matthew Herbert’s Big Band).

Hailed by the Guardian for her “thunderous bass-guitar hooks’ Ruth is without question one of the most important musicians on the UK jazz and improv scenes over many years, helping to lay the foundation for the UK’s jazz renaissance, whilst performing in many of the most popular and influential bands, including Acoustic Ladyland, Melt Yourself Down, Let Spin, and Vula Viel, as well as performing and recording with the likes of Shabaka Hutchings, Mercury-Award nominee Kit Downes, Sam Amidon, Bojan Z, Marc Ribot, Rokia Traoré, and Paul McCartney.

Underpinned by a return in spirit to her roots and untaught instincts as a teen punk musician, applying a unique tuning for each song with an improvised, stream of consciousness approach to vocals focusing on the sound and feeling, Ruth’s debut album as a band leader has rightly been universally acclaimed.

Skylla’s music is diaphonous, eerie, intimate, and utterly original. Music like you’ve never heard before.

A unique and unmissable experience, don’t miss this gig.
