Celebrating the release of his ‘Rap Poetics’ EP, Otis Mensah brings his unique blend of rap, spoken word and poetry to Yellow Arch alongside support from Ray Wills & YusufYellowmusic.

Since being appointed as Sheffield poet laureate by Magid Magid in 2018, the alternative hip-hop artist and self-described story teller has released a debut EP, performed at a range of festivals and published his first book, ‘SAFE METAMORPHOSIS’ and shows no signs of slowing down with his latest release, ‘Rap Poetics’.

Otis’ latest project demonstrates rap as a powerful intellectual tool, seeking to challenge and break down the elitist and white-washed arena of art. The EP bares a raw and emotional take on Otis’ own feelings about the ruling establishment and his own interactions with it, displaying a sense of displacement and confusion about his place within the community. These powerful streams of consciousness give the EP a distinctly relatable sense of artistic vulnerability that really hits home.
