Funky Drummer 3: TC & the Groove Family

After two very popular sell-out shows, we proudly present our final big show of the season, with a very special club-night lineup.

Funky Drummer merges live and electronic globally-inspired music with a focus on the dancefloor and positive energy.

Venue: Yellow Arch Studios. Two rooms. Founded in 1997, Yellow Arch pioneered music in Kelham Island. This impressive space is one of the most historic in the city and the birthplace of the Arctic Monkeys. Like last time, we are kitting out the venue with a stunning laser and lighting display to complement the musical excellence.

TC & The Groove Family

This hot 10-piece afro-fusion band is driven by the prodigy drummer Tim Cook & fronted by the hip-hop vocalist MC Franz Von. Originally formed in Leeds, the band’s sound reflects the diverse musical and cultural backgrounds at the project’s core, exploring afrobeat, broken beat, jungle, jazz and grime.

The group celebrates cultural diversity and community through a euphoric live show that has captivated audiences at the likes of Glastonbury, Greenman, We Out Here and Boomtown.

TC & The Groove Family take to the road to celebrate the release of new music this summer, visiting renowned venues like Jazz Café in London and Band On The Wall in Manchester. Funky Drummer is gassed to present the only club night party in their UK tour at Yellow Arch, where, in the studios above, the band has recorded numerous significant releases!

DJ Hiphopapotamus

After an astoundingly fun first appearance, we welcome back our debut event headliner! Emerging from Bristol, DJ Hippo is a very experienced and totally unique producer and selector. He fuses the tropical sounds of Africa, South America and the Caribbean with hip-hop, house, DnB and Jungle to create “sweet audible sunshine”.

Dan G

Dan is the co-founder of Mondo Radio and has played a part in pushing musical, creative and DIY culture forward in Sheffield for over a decade. Dan’s penchant for crafting technical, eclectic, and forward-thinking sets has seen him play alongside the likes of KOG and Nubiyan Twist, Joker, Kano, P Money, Jamz Supernova and more, alongside regular airing on NTS and Rinse FM.

Kom Kom

An experienced DJ based in Sheffield, resident DJ for Shambala’s Rebel Soul and has a monthly show on Sheffield’s Mondo Radio. Her taste broadly encompasses bassy and percussive music from around the globe, and at Funky Drummer, she will be treating us all to her collection of Afro-Latin house music.

Funky Drummer Collective

Funky Drummer founder Peter Rabbit displays his euphoric selection of jazzy and exotic music mixed with breaks, afro house, and samba jungle—the perfect foundation for saxophone accompaniment by Oscardw, the seasoned sax player from the very popular Sheffield-based band @fuji.speedway.

Bald Ethos

Funky Drummer resident, Theo co-runs the successful Shy Town events that have been hosted in London and Sheffield, and when based in Amsterdam last year, he hosted a weekly show for Slim Radio. Expect a vibrant digital and set covering genres from across the globe, setting the perfect tone for the night as he did with @shadeda last time!

Sonnyleo

Originally from Hackney, London, but now based in Leeds. Expect a fusion of high-energy tracks from Afro riddims to a blend of dancehall, jungle and much more!
