Don’t Be A Brassh*le: A LOROS Fundraiser

On 23rd April 2023 we’ll be having the biggest, brassiest party, all in aid of LOROS hospices. Don’t be a brassh*le – come join us!

We have the biggest, brassiest acts in South Yorkshire performing.

A big, brassy thanks to all the bands playing at the event and to Sam Beaumont for the promo art.

Can’t wait to see you brassh*les there!

Malah Palinka

Inspired by funk, hip-hop, jazz and pop, Malah Palinka are an 8-piece pop-fusion band from Sheffield, UK. Their debut EP, How to Wake Up, dropped in 2021 following a highly successful Kickstarter and since then they’ve been selling out shows across Yorkshire.

After a successful run of gigs last year, including Tramlines festival in Hillsborough Park and other Tramlines fringe gigs in the city, Malah Palinka are currently building up to another busy Summer of gigs and are in the final stages of recording for their second EP.

Archie Baker & The Blue Meanies

Archie Baker & The Blue Meanies is a contemporary soul and blues collective fronted and directed by guitarist and singer Archie Baker, with some of Sheffield’s finest musicians comprising the Blue Meanies. The band features three vocalists, a large rhythm section and a powerful horn section. The music is inspired and influenced by both traditional and modern soul and blues artists, including the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Sammy Rae & The Friends, and Robert Cray.

Sheffield University Big Band

As one of Sheffield’s most active semi-professional big bands, we play a variety of music such as jazz, funk, swing, latin and more. Our repertoire includes the likes of Glen Miller, Buddy Rich, Gordon Goodwin, Stevie Wonder, Chick Corea and Michael Buble.

We mostly play for local charity events, balls, weddings, local live music clubs and bars, and students union nights.

Derventio Brass

Derventio Brass is a brass ensemble, based in Derby, forming in 1993. It consists of talented amateur musicians from many varied backgrounds. They strive continually to provide concerts that are both enjoyable and a little different for their audiences.

Several of the members of Derventio Brass have played together in various groups for many years prior to forming Derventio. The musical repertoire of Derventio Brass ranges from works written specifically for brass ensembles to arrangements of light music, film scores and jazz.

Two Trumpets and a Piano

Having recently formed (a couple of months ago!), this trio are looking forward to their first public gig together. They are all keen jazz musicians and enjoy playing through standards together. All three studied music at University of Sheffield and they all also played, or still play, in the big band.

University of Sheffield Brass Band

The University Of Sheffield Brass Band is an all-inclusive group of brass musicians who meet once a week for rehearsals on Wednesday evenings. We perform one concert per semester and also take part in brass band competitions such as the inter-university competition UniBrass, as well as other traditional contests such as the Whit Friday Marches. We play a huge range of music across different genres, from brass band test pieces to your favourite pop songs.
