Tsarzi: Last Decade of Love – Album Launch
TSARZI is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Sarah Sharp. Steeped in nostalgia and dark humour, her unique style of eccentric pop has been compared to artists as diverse as Kate Bush, Amanda Palmer and Regina Spektor.
Since arriving in Sheffield in 2014 she has played in a range of collaborations from folk to synth-pop, including turns with psych-synth merchants Mysteron and funeral party extravaganza The Unsung.
She won the 2017 The South Yorkshire Filmmakers’ Network Weeks2MakeIt Grand Jury prize for her music video Ornaments, a mix of Andy Warhol and Coronation Street (with hammers).
Last Decade of Love is the debut album from Sheffield singer-songwriter TSARZI. Quirky, catchy and always unpredictable, her unique style of eccentric pop has been compared to artists from Regina Spektor to Kate Bush.
Banjo Jen is Sheffield’s “all-singin’, all-dancin’, badass banjo-pickin’ girl”. Since starting out solo in 2017, she’s already making waves on the Americana scene.
Highlights so far have included playing in Austin TX during SXSW 2017, being selected by the Americana Music Association UK to play at Red Rooster festival 2018, and supporting the Everly Pregnant Brothers at the 100 Club in London.
Influenced by aspects of folk, country, blues and ‘old-time’ American music, she weaves clever lyrics with catchy melodies and a sprinkling of Appalachian step-dancing, singing songs of sinning and straying, characters and conflicts, of running from the law and of running from yourself.
As her idol Dolly Parton says, ‘We’re all just a bunch of sinners, but we do the best we can’. Grab yer cowboy hat and come along for the ride!
