Welcome to 2012 – A Happy New Year from Yellow Arch

The Christmas holiday was a busy one at Yellow Arch.

Yellow Arch New Years Eve was a massive success with the whole building being utilized for the event. The evening’s entertainment ranged from Live bands, Drum ‘n’ Bass and Chill-out DJ’s to Fire-eaters. Tickets sold out at an unbelievably fast rate with crowds queuing up 100 yards round the corner hours before the event to snap up the last remaining tickets.

Parties at Yellow Arch

Over the years, Yellow Arch has been famous for its wild parties and large scale events. November saw Balkanarama;  an Incredible night of live gypsy jazz, Klezmer and Balkan music. It was described as a ‘Hot Balkan Instrumental Orgy!’ and it did not disappoint.

The evening’s main event was the wonderful 15 piece group known as “The Destroyers.” Their vibrant, colorful and energetic performance lifted the roof and sent Yellow Arch’s unit into a frenzy of Eastern European insanity.

The party lasted right into the small hours and had a vibe that was second to none.

Below are some photos from the incredible night from photographer Will Yashadup. Have a look to see if you can spot yourself! You can find all the photos from the night on Will’s facebook page:

By no means does the partying end here. The team at Yellow Arch are hard at work putting together an even more breathtaking event for this coming new years eve. Stay Posted..

Recent Sessions at The Arch

The studio has been buzzing at Yellow Arch. We’ve been working with Chris Halliwell getting his new album near completion. After weeks of recording various instruments and musicians as well as experimenting with a wide range of timbres and sounds the album is nearing the mixing and mastering stage. Its sounding great and we’re all very excited to hear the finished product.

As well as writing string parts for Kylie Minogue and polishing off Richard Hawley’s new album, Yellow Arch producer Colin Elliot has been in the studio with pianist singer/songwriter Tom Hickox who has been working on his own album. This week we had the pleasure of recording a live string quartet in the studio for Tom which was a really fantastic experience for everyone involved.

As well as this, we’ve been continuing our work with Exposed Magazine. This month our session was with up-and-coming two piece band The Algiers which was captured by local film maker Darren Topliss. The session was recorded in our live room and both musicians had a real energy that reflected on their performance and sound. It was a great session to be involved with and the videos will be online shortly.

Here are a few snaps of these sessions as well as a video of Tom Hickox. (Copyright of all Chris Halliwell Photos belongs to Jane Parr.)

If you’re interested in recording your own musical projects, looking for a place to rehearse or need to hire gear then Yellow Arch can be the place for you.

Rehearsal space starts as low as £5 per hour and our standard rate for recording is £30 per hour (engineer included) We also offer a range of musical equipment for hire. If you’re interested in seeing what we can do for you feel free to call or email us for more details. We’re very friendly and always keen to help.

In Session with Exposed Magazine

On September 22nd Yellow Arch embarked on our first session with exposed magazine. In these sessions, up and coming Sheffield bands supported by Exposed are filmed performing live at our studio. Our first session saw us recording The Volcanoes for a three song set of two of their own originals and a cover of “Walk Like an Egyptian.” They’re a lively bunch of guys and were real pleasure to work with.

Stay posted for further videos and pictures of the session but for now here’s The Volcanoes performing “The Pageant”

Goodbye Duane!!

Just a little update about the studio!

For the past few weeks we have been blessed by the presence of the guitar legend that is Duane Eddy! He has been recording an album with  Richard Hawley and it was a real pleasure meeting Duane and getting to know him.

Sam and Duane

He had so many stories to tell us and he was a true gentleman, we were all sad to see him leave! The album is hopefully going to be ready by Spring 2011, so keep an eye out for its release!!

Here’s a video featuring Duane in action!
